Orlando, Florida can be called the city of theme parks, home to Walt Disney World (the largest of the six Disney parks worldwide), Universal Studios Orlando (the largest of the five Universal Studios worldwide), SeaWorld Orlando, Legoland (The World of Chima), and more. We don’t really enjoy crowded amusement facilities, especially in the hot weather, so we decided to pick just one to visit. Since I had already been to three Disney parks, we chose Universal Studios.

Universal Studios is a theme park created by NBC (National Broadcasting Company) in the United States. It was originally built for film production before being opened to the public, becoming a large comprehensive amusement park centered around movies. Although the five Universal Studios parks worldwide each have their own characteristics, they all revolve around film culture, combining high-tech amusement facilities, spectacular performances, and immersive experiences to create entertainment value for visitors.

Universal Studios Orlando includes three original parks: Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay, as well as a new park that had just opened a week before my arrival—Epic Universe. We debated whether to visit all of them or just a portion, and ultimately chose a two-park (Universal Studios + Islands of Adventure) one-day ticket, stayed at a guesthouse near the parks, and planned to take a bus there.

In the morning, we successfully took the bus and quickly arrived at the distribution center. Only then did we discover that self-driving, light rail, and buses all require passengers to get off here and walk to the destination. Self-driving parking is expensive and it’s hard to find a spot, so public transportation is the most suitable option. It’s about a 10-minute walk to the park entrance, where people had already started lining up.

We first visited Adventure Island, planning to take the Hogwarts Express to Universal Studios in the middle of our trip.

Inside the park, young people were all walking briskly, heading straight for their favorite attractions. Although I had briefly studied the visiting order the night before, I became confused once I entered the park. The park’s app wasn’t very user-friendly (perhaps because I don’t have an iPhone), and the connection between the locations I wanted to visit and the route guidance was poor. By the time I figured things out, I discovered that the waiting times for popular attractions were already very long, so I had to choose attractions with shorter waiting times or visit nearby ones. However, I was originally there just to soak in the atmosphere, walking, stopping, taking photos, and enjoying the scenery, keeping myself happily busy.

However, I didn’t get to ride the Hogwarts Express train that I was most looking forward to, because it was closed for maintenance that day.

We had to walk to the Universal Studios area, it took about 20 minutes or so. The iconic big globe of Universal Studios is right in front of the main entrance.

In this park, I watched the float parade, theater performances, etc.

Arriving at King’s Cross Station, which is normally the departure point for the Hogwarts Express, was not open that day, so I couldn’t check in at Platform 9¾ either.

The park is rich in Harry Potter elements, with many attractions and scenes that are unique to Harry Potter. For example, Hagrid’s motorcycle, Harry Potter escape, the Forbidden Journey, and escaping Gringotts. Many of the thrilling attractions use virtual reality technology, making your heart leap into your throat. Gringotts, Diagon Alley, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, etc., all provide an immersive experience.

As we went along, we experienced about 10 attractions in total, which can’t compare with those Xiaohongshu influencers who experience more than 20 attractions in a day.

However, we voluntarily gave up on several attractions, such as this type of roller coaster, which looked scary. Later, I made up my mind to try the largest red roller coaster, with its inversions, dives, and sideways flights. It was simply unbearable. After getting off, my face turned pale and I felt nauseous. There’s still a difference between real-life and virtual experiences. While the virtual ones make you mentally tense, they don’t cause physical discomfort.

After being excited for a day, we were very tired. We said goodbye to Universal Studios under the sunset, and were glad that we only bought a one-day pass.
