Deqing Travel Guide 2025: Introduction to Scenic Spots in Mogan Mountain, Zhejiang
Mogan Mountain is one of the four famous summer resorts in China, renowned both at home and abroad for its “three advantages” of bamboo, clouds, and springs, and its “four merits” of clarity, tranquility, greenery, and coolness. It has earned the reputation of “the First Mountain in Jiangnan”. The Mogan Mountain Scenic Area is located in Deqing County, Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province.
Mogan Mountain got its name from the end of the Spring and Autumn Period, when the King of Wu sent Mo Ye and Gan Jiang to forge a unique pair of male and female swords here. The scenic area covers a total area of 43 square kilometers with an average elevation of 500 meters. Within its territory are lush bamboo forests that resemble a green sea, clear and inexhaustible mountain springs, and numerous villas, pavilions, and scenic spots of various styles scattered across the landscape. Its beautiful and diverse scenery holds a unique position among China’s mountain scenic areas.
The central scenic area of Mogan Mountain includes Tashan, Zhonghua Mountain, Jinjia Mountain, Wuji Mountain, Mogan Ridge, Paotai Mountain and more, where you can watch sunrise and sea of clouds, as well as admire waterfalls and clear springs. The cultural landscape of Mogan Mountain is rich and colorful. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, it was known as the “Buddhist Kingdom of the Water Town.” Hundreds of villas built in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China are hidden among bamboo groves and green shades, creating a very serene environment, and are called the “World Architecture Museum.”
