ポルト・アレグレの紹介ポルト・アレグレ観光ガイド
ポルト・アレグレの紋章はフランシスコ・ベランカによってデザインされ、1953年1月22日の法律第1030号によって公式紋章としての地位が確立された。同年、イルド・メネゲッティ市長が市長令1947号に署名した。紋章は3つの部分に分かれている。最上部は黄色地に赤いキリスト教の十字架で、この地域で支配的なカトリックを表している。中央には、1773年に当時サンペドロの船長だったホセ・マルセリーノ・デ・フィゲイレドによって建てられたコロニアル門がある。街の入り口にあるランドマークで、街が誰にでも開かれていることを象徴している。下部には緑地に船が描かれ、港としての街を象徴している。紋章の上の王冠には5つの塔が描かれ、州都としての地位を象徴している。最上部の赤いリボンには「Leal e Valorosa Cidade de Porto Alegre」と書かれている。これは1841年、ブラジル皇帝ペドロ2世が、ブラジル王室への不動の忠誠を称え、ポルト・アレグレに与えた称号である。

ポルト・アレグレ（ポルトガル語: Porto Alegre）は、ブラジルのリオ・グランデ・ド・スル州の州都であり、最大の都市である。1769年、マヌエル・ジョルジェ・ゴメス・デ・セプルベダが、身分を隠すためにジョゼ・マルセリーノ・デ・フィゲイレドという偽名を使ってポルト・アレグレを建設した。1772年、ポルトガルはポルト・アレグレに都市としての地位を与える法律に調印した。ポルト・アレグレ市はグアイバ湖の東岸に位置し、5つの川が合流してラゴア・ドス・パトス湖を形成している。5つの川が合流するこの地は、沖積港として重要な位置を占め、ブラジルの工業・商業の中心地となっている。近年、ポルト・アレグレでは、いくつかのNGOが主導した世界社会フォーラムが開催された。参加型予算を最初に導入した都市としても有名である。2006年には、第9回世界教会協議会総会がポルト・アレグレで開催された。
